I guess the time has finally come that garmin decides to discontinue support and updates for Symbian devices. The final release is the 5.00.60 which takes care of some of the problems we are facing. Changes in v5.00.60: - To improve the horizontal to vertical NOKIA 5800 screen problem - NOKIA 5800 to improve the horizontal screen open 'turn preview' issue - To improve the NOKIA 5800 in the evening when the text mode Note, the 5.00.60 is an update, not a standalone installation. To update, just copy the files and override your current files in Garmin Folder, and run the SIS file from the phone to update it from v5.00.x to 5.00.60 you can get the update from the downloads section here: here's an email reply from Garmin to an user from a GPS community in Malaysia regarding the discontinuation concerns. Well, if true I can only imagine it's due to one of a few things. Nokias move to Meamo - although they said they will still be running Symbian for some of their own and other manufactorers devices. It's so widely pirated and the Symbian version makes so little money as the result, that it's not worth supporting. Imo, it's number 2.
Something which I have been warning people about for ages. And when certain people put instructions on how to bypass the protection on their blogs, it doesn't help things. And thus ends updates and support for the best satnav on symbian.
Well done the freeloaders.
Yes, it is very simple as well. Here is it: With your old card in your phone: 1.
Connect the phone to the PC via USB and select 'Data Transfer Mode' 2. Run route66 sync on the PC.
Select the map files, etc in the right hand pane within route66 and press backup. When complete you should see the backup file in the left hand pane of route66. Disconnect the phone from the USB port and then 5. Press the red 'call cancel' button and select 'remove memory card' on the phone and remove this memory card (Best keep it safe just in case).
Insert your shinny new memory card. Using the phone, format the memory card (just to be safe). (You probably wouldn't need to do this, so no need if you have other data on the card) 7. Start route66 sync again and restore the backup to the mobile.
It work perfect. I hate to repeat myself but I'll try it tonight. BTW are you familiar with the internet connection sharing one can do using bluetooth (since 6110 doesn't have Wi-fi). I've been wanting to write a tutorial for months now - since I got it to work. Not much use to me since my PC only has dial-up. But if you have broadband it's possible to make a datacall to your PC using BT then using IP-passthrough you can browse on your phone using your PC's internet connection.
The range is obviously limited but I got a Bluetoot 2.0 dongle has decent range (it covers large part of our house) Most forums discuss this for the n70 (using a program called Gnubox). Check it out - or wait for my tutorial (could be long time.).
